Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D). This year, it will be held in the month of February.
As per the information brochure provided by the IIT-D, the examination will be held for 25 papers. It will be conducted in an Online Computer Based Test (CBT). Candidates will have to answer 65 questions in 3 hours.

Pattern of paper
There will be questions of both one and two marks. The questions will have four options. However, Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions will have no options and students have to enter answers using the virtual keyword on the monitor.
Although, there will be negative marks for every incorrect answer, for NAT questions, there will be no such penalty.
GATE 2020 at international centers
Outside India, GATE 2020 will be conducted in centers in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Dubai (UAE), Katmandu (Nepal) and Singapore.
The result of the examination is scheduled to be released on 16th March 2020. The scorecard will be valid for three years.
What is GATE?
GATE is an examination which is conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). These educational institutes conduct examinations on the behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, MHRD.
Every year, one of the eight institutes conducts the exam. GATE tests student’s understanding of various subjects at Engineering/Technology/Architecture and post-graduate levels.
Why GATE?
All the students who want to seek admissions into Postgraduate or Doctoral programs in the institutes that are supported by MHRD need to appear in GATE.

GATE for employment
Many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) shortlist candidates based on the GATE score. Some Central Government jobs also consider GATE score for shortlisting candidates.
